Brick Press Size:M its steel rollers still seatedA cast iron brick press stands idle in the main hall of Box Hill Brickworks, its heavy frame and mechanisms intact after the works closed in August 1988. Four such presses were planned when Standard Brick and Tile Co. Ltd established the site from around 1913. The grinding pans and press machinery retained here represent the same fundamental technology introduced with the industrialisation of brickmaking in the latter nineteenth century. Part of the
